Summary Performs the fundamental engineering tasks associated with the design and development of mechanical systems to product requirements and specifications. Typical products include suspension systems, final drives, and custom gearbox applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for technical performance of assigned projects including adherence to the Development process.
Accept design responsibility, authority and accountability of assigned product designs
Design of complex rotating machines such as gearboxes and transmission assemblies
Design of complex tracked and wheeled vehicle suspension systems
Perform mechanical design analyses for assigned product design projects
Develop plan for validating design to customer requirements
Specification of purchase componentry: includes bearings, seals, fasteners, etc.
Component engineering design of structural components within the assemblies
Interaction with manufacturing engineering and quality to assure manufacturability of designed hardware
Planning, execution and documentation of engineering analyses required for product design to assure robustness, reliability and performance requirements are met
Constructs engineering artifacts for design reviews, including APQP design process documents: DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.
Support prototype fabrication
Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
Ensure form, fit and function of complex mechanical system concepts
Preparation support for design review meetings
Support the preparation of presentation material to convey analysis results and recommendations
Ability to support testing operations of developmental prototypes

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering from a four-year college or university.
Minimum of 10 years work experience utilizing effective engineering tools for the design and development of dynamic mechanical systems.
Direct experience with CREO or similar engineering CAD tool for solid modeling and drawing creation.
Direct experience with ANSYS design analysis software or equivalent for performing FEA structural analyses.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Must understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin the analysis for static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, shock, and other forms of analysis as required for the design and development of complex mechanical systems.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
