We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a temporary assignment with our City Government. This project-based role will support critical accounting functions including month-end and year-end closings, capital asset management, and general ledger maintenance. The ideal candidate will be available to start immediately and possess strong governmental accounting experience.

Duration

Temporary project assignment (estimated 3-6 months, possibility of extension based on project needs)

Key Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
• Perform complex general ledger accounting functions and analysis
• Reconcile various accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies
• Assist with capital asset tracking, depreciation, and reporting
• Prepare journal entries and account analyses to support financial statement preparation
• Provide documentation for audit requests
• Generate financial reports and assist with budget analysis
• Support special projects and process improvements as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in governmental accounting
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, data analysis)
• Strong understanding of GAAP and governmental accounting standards
• Experience with general ledger management and financial reporting
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Tyler Munis experience
• CPA or active pursuit of certification
• Previous experience with capital assets management
• Prior experience working with city or county government
• Knowledge of governmental accounting standards (GASB)
• Experience with fund accounting
