EMS - EMS Supervisor

Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, or "CRMC", is a 25-bed, non-profit, critical access hospital serving Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma since 1949. As a rural hospital, CRMC is surprising because of its large size and wide variety of services. Although we can provide many of the same services you will find in a big city, we take great pride in our friendly and caring staff.

The EMS supervisor must meet all the prerequisites listed for EMS, have 2 years of street experience with service, and have demonstrated to the EMS director an ability to assume responsibility through past performance. Has the ability to interact with Hospital Administration, Physicians, Directors, patients, and family in ages from the neonatal to the geriatric patient.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Area of patient care and leadership)

  • Demonstrates a knowledge of and ability to apply all BLS skills and equipment listed under EMT job description.
  • In addition the supervisor must show a proficiency in application of ALS skills listed under PARAMEDIC job description.
  • Maintains a high knowledge level of service protocols, the hospital and department policy and procedure manual including CQI process and safety procedures.
  • Must maintain the ability to properly lift and move heavy objects.
  • Needs to display the ability to fill in for EMS Director on a day-to-day basis and in disaster situations.
  • Handles additional responsibility of logistics, CQI or Training. Each is delineated in policy and procedure.
  • Maintains a professional image at all times showing the ability to manage their shift and work with the director and other supervisors in solving personnel and inter/intra departmental problems. They are to promote harmony.
  • Offers constructive criticism and help implement department changes.
  • Maintains charge of their shift as far as personnel utilization, scheduling transport, emergency responses. Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
  • Maintain a high knowledge level of treatment and assessment skills for patients of all ages, and participate in Age specific training, written and skills annually.
  • Helps Director maintain a safe working environment at CRMC and interdepartmentally.
  • Daily duties to include supervision of staff, overseeing daily staff duties, logging of runs daily, QA’s of calls.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • They must maintain knowledge of the use and maintenance of all EMS equipment listed in the EMT and PARAMEDIC job descriptions.
  • Completes proper documentation on EMS run form.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees.
  • Will oversee and participate in the precepting and training of new personnel, EMS students and other students to include Nursing or Physicians.
  • Familiarizes self with city and county roads.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with other public service personnel. Covers a fair share of any 3rd out responsibilities.
  • Must have a dependable automobile.
  • Must maintain a working phone.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participating and overseeing daily chores.
  • Daily batching, checking daily paperwork for completeness.
  • Organizing daily study when time allows
  • Supervising activities
  • Daily ordering, med cart checks, overseeing crew duties.
  • Making administrative decisions in absence of Director and/or Assist Director.
  • Assisting with coverage when duties and calls outweigh staffing.
  • 3rd out availability when needed.
  • Assisting with coverage in absence of Director or Assist Director.
  • Willingness to be available in time of need, and postponing normal home activities.
  • Attending Supervisor meetings and committee meetings on days not scheduled to work.
  • Being a role model for crew.
  • Interacting professionally with CRMC staff and Physicians.
  • Always promoting professionalism for CRMC EMS, i.e. appropriate dress, shirt tucked in.
  • Supporting Administrative decisions even if they differ from your own.
  • Promotes harmony within department and CRMC.
  • Assisting with annual evaluations.

The EMS Supervisor assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an approved Paramedic program and successful completion of EMS State Board Exam, required
  •  Current Kansas Paramedic Certification, required
  •  Current BLS and ACLS Certification, required
  •  PALS or Pediatric certification, required
  •  Current valid Kansas Driver’s’ License, required
  •  Current Kansas Paramedic Certification, 2 years minimum, required
