he VP Corporate Controller of this multi-billion dollar company in the Los Angeles area reports to the Chief Accounting Officer. This position is responsible for all corporate accounting functions including general accounting, SEC reporting and technical accounting, stock-based compensation administration, accounts payable and payroll.

 

The VP Corporate Controller is responsible for the following:

Review of complex technical accounting transactions including accounting for income taxes, share-based compensation, and fair value measurements.

Assess and analyze new accounting and reporting guidance, its applicability to the organization, and present implementation plans. Research technical accounting and reporting issues, conclude and present to Corporate Management.

Participate in the compilation of external financial reporting including providing draft wording for publicly published documents.

Review of contracts, legal documents, and identify key clauses for purposes of determining appropriate accounting positions.

Conversant in fair value modeling and have the ability to interact with external fair value specialists.

Experience with mergers, acquisitions and debt offerings preferred.

Interact with and interpret information from External Counsel

Interact with External Auditors on complex accounting treatments.

Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure a strong control and compliance framework with corporate SOX and key controls, adherence to US GAAP and other statutory requirements and oversight for external/internal audits and reviews

Perform forecasting tasks and create and review profit and loss statements.

Manage cash position, project cash requirements on weekly basis, and assist Executive Management in the creation, implementation and updating of the company budgets.

Preparation for, and oversee the annual examination by outside independent auditors and other outside parties.

Develop and mentor the accounting team.

Assist in any special projects for Executive Management, as requested.

 

The Person

The ideal candidate is a mature, experienced professional with in-depth accounting and finance management experience, possessing 15+ years’ of experience. He/she must have “hands-on” knowledge of US GAAP, complex financial products and accounting systems, and currency/tax/financial regulations. This individual has the demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple teams and functions within a fast-paced, rapidly expanding, performance-driven environment.

The successful candidate:

Possesses an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting or other relevant field and is an active licensed CPA.

Has strong accounting technical background and understanding of US GAAP.

Will have served at a major public accounting firm

Possesses a proven ability to meet deadlines, routine monthly closes and other reporting requirements.

Possesses excellent analytical, organizational and abstract reasoning skills; has a natural ability for being detailed oriented and accurate with numbers and reporting.

Has an ability to iteratively discuss financial results and assumptions with senior management in a respectful, efficient and confident manner.

Is a problem solver and has the ability to summarize and present reporting results, including explanations and variance analysis. Highly collaborative and perceptive, and shows prudent analysis in problem solving.

Is results oriented with ability to demonstrate good judgement.

Strong ability to plan and organize multiple projects and tasks under strict deadlines.

Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent soft-skills and ability to motivate and influence all levels of management.
