Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will report to the Head of Finance/Controller and will work closely with the CFO, other finance team members and cross-departmental teams. This role will have two direct reports. In addition to leading accounting, responsibilities will include process improvement, forecasting, ad hoc reporting/analysis, special projects such as implementing a revenue forecasting tool, and modeling to support operational initiatives.

 

ROLE PRIORITIES

  • Manage daily/weekly/monthly/annual accounting process which involved review of accounts payable, escalation of accounts receivable/ regular monthly journal entries and adjusting journal entries and timely completion of monthly financial close
  • Perform detailed review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations of general ledger accounts in support of the close cycle and provide guidance to staff on day to day accounting and finance transactions
  • Oversee timely financial statement preparation, tax remittance, regulatory reporting, and payroll processes for our international branch, including coordination with our international advisors.
  • Build upon financial processes and systems with efficiency and accuracy as the goal
  • Maintain monthly headcount process and manage payroll systems and payments on a regular basis including bonus and commission payments
  • Perform review of weekly cash forecasting from AP and AR perspective (prepared by AR and AP staff)
  • Oversee day to day management of audit including potential adjustments for new GAAP standards and ensure detailed and accurate tie out of financial statements
  • Manage monthly cross-departmental reporting to drive performance for each department and provide insights and recommendations on spending variances
  • Work with cross-departmental teams to perform monthly and quarterly re-forecasting of expenses to sync up with Company goals
  • Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed and drive the day to day on special projects such as implementation of a close automation system and a revenue forecasting tool
  • Conduct financial modeling to support operational initiatives including scenario analysis for best approach
  • Prepare consolidation, summary, presentation decks for management review
  • Develop/update documentation and training materials for existing policies and procedures for all major finance functions

 

SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

To be successful in this role, you will have a CPA, and either 1) at least three years of public accounting plus two years of private industry experience, or 2) at least five years of public accounting experience, auditing relevant industries. Also needed, strong knowledge of GAAP, finance and accounting processes, controls and systems.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting required / CPA required (or close to obtaining CPA)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Vlookup and Pivot tables must be second nature) and know how to apply these tools in everyday analysis
  • Strong Accounting, Finance, quantitative and qualitative business writing, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, outgoing attitude, and the ability to work in a team structure
  • Detail oriented, organized, and possess the ability to multitask
  • Highly motivated, hands-on approach, excellent project manager and a quick learner
  • Strong systems aptitude
  • Self-starter, eager, problem solver, creative thinker, adaptable, strong analytical skills
  • An ability to interact with all levels of management and cross-functional teams in a professional manner as well as be able to operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
