Job Description
Position Summary:
Alignment Health Plan is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Manager or Director of Statutory Reporting to lead the preparation and submission of all regulatory financial filings for our health plan entities. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with NAIC, state Department of Insurance (DOI), and CMS requirements, and will serve as a key liaison between the finance function and regulators. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of statutory accounting principles (SAP), managed care operations, and the ability to manage complex reporting requirements in a dynamic, multi-entity environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation, review, and timely submission of all quarterly and annual statutory filings (e.g., NAIC Health Blank, Risk-Based Capital reports, Supplemental Health Care Exhibits)
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements issued by state DOIs, CMS, and other governing bodies
Interpret and apply statutory accounting principles (SAP) to ensure accurate and consistent reporting
Partner with actuarial, legal, tax, and compliance teams to gather data and ensure alignment with statutory reporting requirements
Manage the preparation and coordination of annual statutory audits and regulatory examinations
Provide insights and commentary on statutory results to internal leadership and regulatory agencies
Monitor and implement new statutory reporting requirements, accounting standards, and regulatory changes
Maintain internal controls and documentation to support the accuracy and completeness of statutory filings
Build and lead a high-performing team to support statutory reporting and regulatory compliance
Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes and automation initiatives
Serve as primary point of contact for DOI inquiries and support regulatory relationships
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
8+ years of experience in statutory reporting or financial reporting, preferably within a health plan, insurance company, or Big 4 public accounting firm
Deep knowledge of NAIC Health Annual Statement and statutory accounting principles (SAP)
Experience with multi-entity, multi-state reporting environments
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills
Proficient in financial systems such as Workiva, OneStream, Oracle, or similar ERP/reporting platforms
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to interact with regulatory agencies and senior leadership
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience working in a health plan, managed care, or insurance regulatory environment
Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and ACA reporting requirements
Experience implementing process improvements or financial systems related to statutory reporting
