The Role

Certain responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Tax Compliance Management:

  • Oversee third-party tax consultants to ensure timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns and investor K-1s or other relevant investor tax documents for the firm, its subsidiaries, funds/partnerships, and special purpose vehicles (SPVs) by contracted deadlines (e.g., March 31st/July 31st).
  • Ensure adherence to FATCA/CRS reporting requirements and deadlines, including developing and implementing robust compliance procedures.
  • Manage global tax compliance, including preparation and filing of international, federal, state, and local tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions.
  • Oversee indirect tax compliance and accounting, including VAT, property taxes, gross receipts, business licenses, unclaimed property, and payroll taxes.

Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize the firm's tax burden while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies through careful analysis of operations and structure.
  • Manage worldwide transfer pricing processes and maintain up-to-date inter-company documents and agreements.

    Tax Planning and Strategy (continued):

  • Establish global tax policies and procedures to optimize cash repatriation, reduce current tax liability, minimize withholding taxes, and lower the effective tax rate.
  • Support tax-related due diligence and structuring, primarily handled by external advisors.

Transaction Support and Structuring:

  • Assist in determining proper tax accounting treatment for acquisitions (domestic and international), sales, recapitalizations, and other transactions.
  • Review fund documents and structure charts, to determine/evaluate tax treatments, allocations, tax waterfalls, and distribution preferences.
  • Support corporate initiatives, including due diligence, transaction support, reorganizations, dissolutions, and other special projects.
  • Serve as a tax subject matter expert, collaborating cross-functionally with finance, legal, and other business functions.

Risk Management and Controls:

  • Assess and mitigate tax risks associated with the firm's business activities.
  • Implement controls and processes to ensure accurate and compliant tax reporting.

Tax Reporting and Financial Analysis:

  • Manage all aspects of financial reporting for income taxes, including financial statement tax disclosures.
  • Provide tax-related financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by senior management and stakeholders.
  • Oversee required tax reporting to tax authorities and stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation and filing of various tax documents, including 1099s and Form 1042s.
  • Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities, responding to information requests.
  • Collaborate with external advisors, legal counsel, and auditors to address tax matters effectively.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the accounting department.
  • Build and maintain solid working relationships with internal partners, peers, external consultants.
