Our client, a prominent credit union based near Edmonton, Alberta is in search of a Risk Management Analyst to join their dynamic and collaborative team. The Risk Management Analyst plays a pivotal role within the Risk team, reporting directly to the Manager, Risk and Finance. Responsible for contributing to Enterprise Risk Management, the Analyst evaluates risks, conducts internal compliance and control assessments, and ensures regulatory monitoring, reporting, and tracking for risk management, loss prevention, and security control for the credit union. This role is flexible, and a hybrid/work-from-home model can be accommodated.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  • Support the development and implementation of enterprise risk programs and policies, focusing on loss prevention and security, to effectively mitigate the risk of losses.
  • Lead the development of key risk and performance indicators and metrics for assessing and quantifying risk adequately.
  • Identify and analyze trends and potential problem areas, providing estimates of risk to credit union assets, operating results, and reputation.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and analyses for the Manager, Finance and Risk, addressing sound business practices, non-compliance issues, risks, or other effectiveness or efficiency concerns.
  • Deliver findings and recommendations through written reports and presentations to support the Risk and Audit Committee and Management team in addressing inappropriate risk, ambiguous procedures, and inadequate controls.
  • Provide consistent advice and follow-up to internal members on the interpretation and implementation of procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and assessment of operational policies and procedures (e.g., robbery, fire, bomb threats) in collaboration with internal members.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess the effectiveness, thoroughness, accuracy, and compliance of established policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Identify trends and breakdowns in controls, providing insights and opportunities to enhance existing policies, procedures, processes, and risk management techniques.
  • Manage the credit union's internal audit function by reviewing adherence to credit union policies, industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain expertise in credit union policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements through regular reviews of applicable literature.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulators for reporting, scheduling, and reviewing relevant information.

Qualifications:

  • Professional designation with specialization in internal audit (e.g., Certified Internal Auditor - CIA) would be an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Previous knowledge and/or experience with Enterprise Risk Management.
  • One to three years of retail banking experience combined with a minimum of one year of experience in internal controls and audit.
  • High attention to detail and analytical ability are crucial for success in this role.
