A leading grower/distributor is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the company’s accounting and financial functions. The Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, treasury management, budgeting, cost accounting, and maintaining internal controls. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Finance Oversight:

  • Supervise and manage accounting staff to ensure accuracy and efficiency in all financial processes.
  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.

Treasury & Cash Management:

  • Manage cash flow and treasury operations to ensure optimal liquidity and effective investment of company funds.
  • Monitor banking relationships and oversee financing activities as needed.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Present monthly financial statements and analyses to senior management regularly.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports to support business decision-making.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting to align with company goals.

ERP System & Process Improvements:

  • Oversee ERP system maintenance and enhancements to improve financial reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure proper integration of accounting and financial data within the ERP system.
  • Experience with Famous ERP preferred; willingness to learn and adapt to new financial and operational software.

Cost Accounting & Standard Costing:

  • Implement and oversee cost accounting systems to ensure accurate product costing.
  • Develop and maintain standard costing procedures, analyzing variances and improving cost efficiencies.

Journal Entries & Compliance:

  • Review and approve journal entries to ensure proper classification and adherence to accounting principles.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance.

Year-End Review & Tax Compliance:

  • Coordinate and support year-end financial review, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Work closely with external CPA firm to prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations.
  • Assist in tax planning strategies and compliance reporting as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or agricultural environment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with Famous ERP preferred; willingness to learn new software and adapt to evolving technology.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop a team, creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset for financial planning and operational efficiency.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present financial data effectively to senior management.
