Strong, growing food company on Long Island seeking a Transportation Director who will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the transportation department at the local level. This position manages a team of 3–5 local transportation associates and plays a key role in ensuring safe, cost-effective, and timely freight movement in alignment with organizational goals. The Transportation Director will also lead carrier negotiations, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and foster strong internal and external relationships to ensure a high level of service.

- Engage and manage transportation providers to develop the most cost-effective and reliable freight options.
- Lead the annual bid process and support new business development through strategic transportation planning.
- Manage carrier relations and performance, ensuring service levels are met and the carrier base is optimized.
- Promote and enforce a safe working environment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain a high-performing transportation team through strong hiring practices, staff development, effective communication, and performance evaluations.
- Plan, organize, and manage staff workloads to meet departmental and organizational expectations.
- Oversee the transportation claims process and resolve carrier disputes efficiently.
- Generate reports, respond to internal and external data requests, and maintain required transportation records.
- Establish and maintain an efficient scheduling and dispatching process in collaboration with Sales and Operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field preferred
- Food industry experience would be preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics management.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction in warehouse or distribution center environments.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
