A well-established produce distributor is searching for a Retail Sales-Channel Leader to join their team. The Retail Sales-Channel Leader will be responsible for driving revenue growth, developing high-performing teams, and building lasting relationships with retail partners in the competitive and fast-paced perishable produce and value-added food space. The ideal candidate will have deep industry experience, proven leadership capability, and a strong track record of working with brokers and retail channels. This role will have leadership responsibility over product development, merchandising, retail drivers, and the retail sales team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive retail sales strategy across multiple channels (grocery, convenience, deli, select food service)
- Identify growth opportunities by analyzing market data, product categories, and customer segments.
- Partner with executive leadership to align retail goals with broader company objectives
- Deliver on revenue targets through best-in-class sales execution and customer engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and food service partners.
- Negotiate and manage strategic contracts Team Leadership & Development.
- Lead, coach, and develop high-performing retail sales teams and cross-functional partners.
- Oversee performance management, succession planning, and professional growth.
- Guide pricing strategy, credit terms, and collaboration with procurement.
- Own and manage the annual retail sales plan and budget.
- Provide leadership in product development and innovation based on customer and market feedback.
- Work closely with marketing, operations, procurement, logistics, and finance to ensure alignment and execution.
- Leverage data to drive strategic decisions and continuous improvement.
- Build reporting dashboards and deliver executive-level performance updates.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive retail sales experience, preferably in perishable produce, food, or CPG.
- 3+ years in a senior or director-level sales leadership role.
- Demonstrated success in grocery, convenience, deli, and retail food environments.
- Experience managing teams across multiple geographies (CA, UT, AZ, NV)
- Strong consultative sales background and broker management experience.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Financial acumen with P&L management and ROI-based decision making.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; EDI, World Sync, ERP system knowledge a plus.
