A well-regarded, reputable Grower/Packer/Shipper is seeking a General Manager in South Texas. Our client is committed to providing fresh, healthy food for a sustainable future, leveraging innovation to lead the agriculture sector. This position reports to the CEO/COO.

Role Summary:

The General Manager will oversee all aspects of the nursery's operations, ensuring efficient management and strategic growth. This role requires strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of horticulture, varietals, and a commitment to food safety and regulatory compliance, research and development. The ideal candidate will manage a team of 6-12 employees and work closely with industry partners to drive the business forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the nursery, ensuring quality production and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with ownership to establish long-term goals and strategies for growth and sustainability.
  • Analyze market trends and adjust business strategies to maximize profitability and competitiveness.
  • Manage capital improvement projects, including facility upgrades and new equipment purchases, ensuring they align with business objectives.
  • Develop budgets and timelines for projects, monitoring progress to ensure successful completion.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 6-12 employees, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluation processes to build a skilled workforce.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance programs to safeguard product integrity.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with growers, retail box stores, and wholesale nursery businesses. Identify new sales opportunities and implement effective marketing strategies to expand market presence.
  • Oversee plant production, ensuring adherence to best practices in growing and transplanting.
  • Stay informed about new seed varieties and collaborate with seed companies on trials and introductions.
  • Stay current on industry trends, innovations, and sustainable practices to maintain a competitive edge
  • Implement research initiatives to evaluate new plant varieties and growing techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in nursery management or horticultural operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy, food safety, and nursery operations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial reports and develop budgets.
  • Proficiency in technology and software relevant to nursery management.

Compensation: 150K-175K, Bonus, Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, relocation assistance.
