We represent a well-established Produce Company that is searching for a Produce Counselor to join their team in Alabama. The Produce Counselor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the produce department in our retail grocery stores and supermarkets. The Produce Counselor oversees ordering, stocking, and pricing produce products, managing staff, maintaining quality and safety standards, and providing exceptional customer service. The Produce Counselor will also train the trainers to build sales and profits in the Produce Department.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze profit and loss statements to recommend improvements to meet department standards.
  • Ability to train in displaying and merchandizing products.
  • Assist in developing promotional programs.
  • Work with and the department staff to improve efficiency and increase sales.
  • Assist the department with merchandising in accordance with the preferences of the store owner / manager to maintain shelf allocations to ensure the availability of products.
  • Evaluate department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement, and relay that information to department managers and owners.
  • Review standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained.
  • Communicate with the store leadership on problems, recommendations for change, effectiveness of plans and merchandising decisions
  • Recommend proper shelf, case, and display conditions, to include stocking, cleaning, straightening, hydrating, and rotating products.
  • Review and recommend proper cooler conditions to include rotating and organizing cases of product.
  • Assist in training employees to effectively provide portioning, presentation, and packaging merchandise according to customers’ requests and in a way that minimizes shrink and maximizes sales.

Requirements:

  • At least four years of related experience required.
  • High school diploma required, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Understand the importance of the handling of allergen containing products.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle several tasks at once.
  • Previous customer service experience in a grocery store, supermarket, or produce retail space.
  • Strong communication skills.
