Director of Labor Relations

The Labor Relations Director provides advice, information, guidance, and assistance to all levels of management in the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of numerous Collective Bargaining Agreements, disciplinary and grievance matters and policy and regulatory adherence.

Reports to: Senior Director Labor Relations

Location: Remote - anywhere in the US with limited travel

Pay Range: Up to $175k plus 10% bonus

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collective Bargaining:

  • Serves as first chair in labor agreement negotiations with a multitude of labor unions for new and successor agreements.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to define negotiations objectives and strategies, identifies and researches issues, develops proposals, and builds a business case to support the Company’s positions.
  • Carries out essential post negotiations duties in a timely manner to ensure effective implementation of labor agreements.
  • Business Development - Performs thorough reviews of collective bargaining agreements to ensure alignment with company goals and legal requirements

Documentation and Record Keeping:

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all labor-related activities, negotiations, and agreements.
  • Prepares reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Dispute Resolution:

  • Proactively identifies and addresses labor-related issues to prevent disputes.
  • Mediates conflicts between management and union representatives to reach amicable resolutions.
  • Provides timely and precise guidance to management on contractual and disciplinary grievances.
  • Serves as the Pre-arbitration Step Grievance Procedure Representative for applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Leads and manages the arbitration process in his or her designated area, including preparation, strategy development and representation in hearings.
  • Provides timely and accurate responses to charges filed with a third-party agency, such as the National Labor Relations Board, by conducting interviews and gathering data. Serves as the Company Representative at conferences or hearings, as required.

Labor Compliance:

  • Stays current on labor laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ensures company policies and practices align with legal requirements.
  • Conducts regular reviews to assess compliance with labor agreements.

Communication & Relationship Building:

  • Fosters positive relationships with Union Leaders which facilitates communication and the potential for the amicable resolution of labor relations issues.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, including HR, legal, and operations, to ensure alignment on labor relations strategies and to promote transparency and understanding.

Training & Education:

  • Researches, develops, designs, and delivers labor relations training programs for management to promote a positive and informed work culture.
  • Collaborates with leadership to determine future needs.
  • Keeps stakeholders informed about changes in labor law and industry trends.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Develop and implement process improvements to drive efficiency and productivity.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This is a remote role with limited travel.
  • First Chair contract negotiation experience.
  • Responsibility for multiple contracts- 10 plus preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Labor Relations, Business, or related discipline Advanced Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of Labor Relations experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws, regulations, collective bargaining processes and best practices.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and diplomatically with diverse stakeholders.
