Director of Broadband

TD Madison & Associates is a retained executive search firm that specializes in the broadband industry.  Our client is the City of Ft. Collins, Colorado. 

We are seeking candidates for a Director of Broadband position.    

SUMMARY:

The Broadband Director is a strong, highly credible, unifying leader with demonstrated abilities in facilitating and implementing a clear vision and strategy. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader who can anticipate and grow the role of the fiber based broadband system in the community and local area.

The ideal candidate will have a full complement of management skills including a comprehensive understanding of financial management, product lifecycle, sales, customer service, personnel management, change management and public relations. This involved leader stays abreast of industry trends and technology, coaches and mentors valued and empowered staff, builds relationships with relevant entities and agencies, ensures fiscal responsibility, and places a high priority on providing excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will understand Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) technical requirements and operations, have strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative management style. This position must skillfully operate in a dynamic political environment and builds lasting regional partnerships and a culture of performance and continuous improvement. 

The Broadband Director will work effectively with management, and in the partnership will establish, articulate, and implement a strategic vision deploying FTTP across the community on time and on budget. The ideal candidate will can articulate the strategic direction and have the change management skills to develop and implement the initiative.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and directs operations and activities of the FTTP initiative, to include hiring and managing employees, preparing reports, establishing budgets, comparing and analyzing options, reviewing and executing vendor contracts, marketing services, and managing assets.
  • Provides business critical insights using analytics, ensures cross functional alignment of goals and execution, and helps teams drive strategic partnerships and new initiatives forward. Researches and stays abreast of new and emerging technologies to further goals of the FTTP project.
  • Seeks new business opportunities and recommends new products/services to management.
  • Ensures FTTP operations meet strategic and operational goals.
  • Ensures operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Represents the organization with regulatory agencies, legislative bodies, and industry associations.

QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

  •  Must be able to create, modify, and implement FTTP deployment plan and ongoing business operations; including but not limited to establishing and implementing policies, procedures, organizational structures, staffing, processes, and management reporting and controls. Must have demonstrated the ability to work directly with the public and City personnel effectively. Must communicate effectively with all organizational levels within the City and with outside contractors and vendors.
  • Must possess and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of business principles and practices required to manage a fiber to the premises business; including but not limited to sales, operations, project management, customer service, communications and process development. Must be knowledgeable about budgeting, general accounting and fiscal management practices; office procedures; and business operating systems. Must be knowledgeable about the appropriate methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of business circumstances.
  • Relies on extensive experience, sound judgment and demonstrates leadership to plan and accomplish goals. Must have proven ability to multi-task and plan/organize work to meet deadlines, all with a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail.
  • Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities. A wide degree of creativity and flexibility is expected.
  • Understands the concept of providing reliable services to customers and agrees to maintain a continuing commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Accomplished and proven critical thinking skills, strong analytical thought process and adept business acumen.
  • Effectively able to manage multiple projects, diverse team members and competing priorities.
  • Strategic critical thinking in approach to problem solving, issue resolution and solution development drawing upon acute business acumen and perspective gained from a wide range of experience.
  • Ability to effectively summarize and communicate complex problems and analytics to highest level of organization and public.
  • Ability to communicate at executive level and influence effectively both up / down the chain of command, and cross functionally.

 EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, computer science, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively escalating responsibility within the business and technology fields, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing operational or technical teams who support and maintain broadband services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
