Lead Software Engineer

Turn2Partners - Arlington, VA, United States

This Turn2 client is a fast-moving SaaS company that is seeking a Lead Full-Stack Engineer to guide a growing product engineering team while staying deeply hands-on. You’ll report directly to the CTO and serve as the senior-most engineer on a lean, collaborative team.

This role blends technical leadership with active contribution, ideal for engineers who love writing production-quality code, mentoring teammates, and driving architecture decisions that power intelligent software.

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • High impact: Shape the technical foundation of AI-powered decision tools used by real-world customers.

  • Leadership without red tape: Guide the team while staying close to the code.

  • Modern stack: Build with JavaScript, Node.js, TypeScript, Python, and PostgreSQL on cloud-native infrastructure.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and build scalable, full-stack features and services using modern frameworks and tools.

  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews, technical design guidance, and best practice sharing.

  • Own core areas of the application and infrastructure—championing performance, reliability, and clean design.

  • Collaborate with product managers and data scientists to ship features that integrate with machine learning models.

  • Define and uphold engineering standards in a startup-style environment with fast-moving priorities.

  • Contribute to technical roadmap planning and help evaluate tools, frameworks, and system improvements.

What You Bring:

  • 6+ years of full-stack engineering experience with exposure to technical leadership or mentorship.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript (preferably with Node or Nest), Python, and SQL databases like PostgreSQL.

  • Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.

  • Experience with cloud-native development on GCP or AWS.

  • A product-minded approach—balancing business needs with technical integrity.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego mindset.

  • Comfort working in startup or ambiguous environments where priorities evolve quickly.

Location & Flexibility:

  • Based in the Washington DC area; remote considered for the right candidate.

Bonus Points:

  • Background in computer science, physics, math, or a related technical field.

  • Experience working closely with data or ML-powered applications.
